Review: Spiralling Skywards (#2)

Spiralling Skywards Book #2 : Fading

Author:  Lesley Jones

Release Date: 18th November, 2016

From the outside looking in, Sarah and Liam’s bond has been unbreakable since the moment they first laid eyes on each other. Love, romance, and friendship should form the ropes that tether them together. But when old insecurities rise to the surface, Sarah loses sight of her self-worth and feels her identity fading. Faced with a choice that threatens to fray those ties, she finally begins to unravel. Until one day, those ropes snap, that bond is broken, and their relationship sent spiralling off course.

This may be a work of fiction but Sarah could be any of us.

This line can be found in the acknowledgements, by the time I came across it my heart had finally stopped its erratic beating and my emotions had somewhat settled. I realised that in just one sentence, Lesley Jones powerfully captures the very essence of Sarah and Liam’s story.

Ending in a state of confusion Spiralling Skywards: Falling, leaves readers desperate for more from Liam and Sarah. The possibilities of their future are endless. Then book two comes along, and Spiralling Skywards: Fading, pulls you in and stirs a level of empathy so deep and so powerful, it ruins you in the best possible way. For Liam and Sarah every hurdle is harder to pass than the one before. Lesley Jones’ writing flawlessly showcases the truths, fears and heartaches of her perfectly imperfect characters.

Liam and Sarah are the perfect example of a married couple. For me their trials and tribulations are real. What they endured was painful, exhausting and overwhelmingly powerful. The choice by Jones to showcase the story in predominantly Sarah’s point of view enhances the hurt, the brutality and the reality of many issues woman as mothers and wives face everyday.

Spiralling Skywards: Fading, is another Lesley Jones novel that needs to be felt to be understood. Once again using her secondary characters to enhance emotion, Lesley skillfully segues into the possibility of more books in this series.

A testament to Jones’ ability to engage readers with her complex characters, the honesty and resilience of Sarah and Liam, is what makes this series and storyline last beyond the pages.

My Review

Lesley was born and grew up in Essex, just outside of London, England but moved with her family to Australia in 2006 and now lives close to the city of Melbourne. As well as writing, Lesley is an avid reader and also enjoys watching a game of football- the round ball version- while sipping on a glass of wine, during her down time. Despite now living in Aus, she is still an Essex girl at heart and remains partial to her waxing, tinting, sculpting and shellac routines. Lesley is a huge fan of social media and can often be found chatting to her readers in her various groups. She is a sucker for a reality TV show, with TOWIE being her obvious favourite.
