Alexis Wyndham isn’t quite sure what to think about her “friendship” with star quarterback, Brett Pederson. Sure, he has more brains than the entire football team combined. Not to mention that fact he’s a great kisser. When he asks her to help him with his college admission essay, she isn’t sure if he’s doing it to spend more time with her or if he’s just using her for her intelligence. But after her nemesis, Summer Hoyt, makes it clear she’s not finished chasing after Brett, the war is on, and the head cheerleader will find out that hell hath no fury like a Queen B*.

Alexis and Brett are back in Queen B* Strikes Back. Picking up exactly where Confessions of a Queen B* left off, book two takes on a different direction and a different focus. With the same characters making an appearance and high school dynamics influencing the story line. Queen B* Strikes Back is heavily focused on Brett and Alexis’ evolving relationship. With a lot of ‘will they?’ or ‘wont they?’ moments, readers will witness the struggle of high school and young love.

Knowing that they are attracted to one another, one would think the next move is to inevitably start a relationship. But even though Alexis loves hanging out in their bubble of no interruptions and no expectations, she seems determined to keep it separate from her life in public. Especially school.

As Brett endeavours to weaken Alexis’ walls of steel, Alexis realises he is never going to give up. Getting through her defences at every angle, Brett is determined to prove to her that they can be more then friends. As Alexis comes to terms with the fact that her and Brett being together might not be so bad, high school rears its ugly head. playing on Alexis’ insecurities her enemies at school are focused on reminding her of all the reasons she didn’t want to succumb to Brett’s charm.

As feelings are exposed and hearts get battered and bruised. Crista McHugh seamlessly transitions readers from book one to two. Ensuring that the books stay true to their YA category, McHugh completely captures the emotions, the dialogue and the consequences that go hand in hand with high school. In a series that shows recognition and understanding, Crista McHugh has written a series that does not downplay or disregard the seriousness of high school and it’s impact on individual decisions. Whilst McHugh’s writing may be filled with drama and sarcasm, the essence of this story is never lost.

Readers will be anxiously waiting book three. Hoping that Brett and Alexis finally leave high school and all it’s baggage behind. Possibly getting their Happy Ever After.

Growing up in small town Alabama, Crista relied on story-telling as a natural way for her to pass the time and keep her two younger sisters entertained.

She currently lives in the Audi-filled suburbs of Seattle with her husband and two children, maintaining her alter ego of mild-mannered physician by day while she continues to pursue writing on nights and weekends.

Just for laughs, here are some of the jobs she’s had in the past to pay the bills: barista, bartender, sommelier, stagehand, actress, morgue attendant, and autopsy assistant.

And she’s also a recovering LARPer. (She blames it on her crazy college days)
