Synopsis:

After the death of her parents on the day of her college graduation, Delilah Armstrong thought she could finally follow her heart and come out to her closest friends, but the guilt of going against her parents’ beliefs haunts her. The feelings she has for her best friend, Ashley, are stronger than anything she’s felt before, but Delilah has never even kissed a girl, and fear stops her at every turn.

Ashley Carver promised herself that she would never again date another girl who wasn’t out, but that was before she met intoxicatingly sweet and sexy Delilah.

When another girl offers to teach Delilah the ropes, it changes Delilah’s whole world and gives her the courage to go after the only girl she really wants. But coming out isn’t as easy as Delilah imagined, and moving past her parents’ death and the feelings of guilt she is left with is even harder. The intense passion between Ashley and Delilah is too strong to deny, but coming together means risking everything.

Discovering Delilah is an edgy, evocative, romantic story of friendship, family, and the courage to love.

Discovering Delilah is Book Two in the Harborside Nights Series but can be read as a Standalone.

MY REVIEW

Discovering Delilah is my first Melissa Foster novel and it did not disappoint. This book features a group of friends living in Harbourside and each novel is a standalone focusing on different characters. Discovering Delilah focuses on a young woman who is struggling finding her place in society after the death of her parents.

For Delilah the death of her parents is the catalyst for events that follow. As she reminisces on her childhood and her relationships with her parents, she realises she has been living a life filled with secrets and shame. Meeting Ashley has not only brought this to the surface but has forced Delilah to acknowledge that it is a time for a change.

As Delilah admits to herself, Ashley and the world that she is a lesbian, we witness a journey filled with pain, grief and doubt. As Delilah deals with her feelings towards Ashley she must decide as to whether or not she will let her parents views on same sex relationships jeopardise the best thing that has ever happened to her.

Melissa Foster captures the heartache and uncertainty that is faced by the LGBTQ community. Her writing brings to life the reality of being a minority and what it feels like to deny your true self for so long. Foster successfully keeps a steady pace in Discovering Delilah and puts together secondary characters that support and encourage the needs of the Main Characters.

As the issue of “coming out” is very much prevalent, I recommend Discovering Delilah whilst trying to find solace and understanding. To know you’re not alone and be guided into a direction of light and positiveness. Discovering Delilah unfolds in the most cathartic way and readers will be curious and hopeful for a happy ending.
