After a ridiculous idea devised among friends comes to existence, Evelyn finds herself part owner in a private investigation firm specializing in matters of the heart. Throughout wild antics with her best friends Jonathan and Kate, Evelyn conducts relationship background checks for a wide variety of clients. Soon it becomes clear that one case has moved beyond professional and Evelyn finds herself fighting an attraction she cannot resist. Will Evelyn admit her feelings when she uncovers love in the most unexpected of places?
Kacey Shea is the pen name for one of the new kids on the writing block. Shea asked me to review her debut novel and after seeing the cover for it I had no qualms in accepting the ARC.
Doesn’t everyone want to know the story about the hot guy with tattoos on his body?
Uncovering Love is written from two perspectives; that of Evelyn and that of Jonathon (Jon and Evie). As I started to delve into the story and I began to fall into an old habit of mine: Try and predict the end. Being heavily influenced by the concept of dual perspectives, I was sure I had this story line figured out.
I was wrong!
Uncovering Love is a not a predictable love story. And it is not between the two narrators of the story. Shea successfully writes two individual characters, where they both equally hold the readers attention, when showcasing themselves.
We meet Evie who has recently been fired from her job, which then becomes the catalyst for a Private Investigations company that she starts with her friend Jon. Jon has recently returned from the Army and needs a secure and solid fresh start.
The story follows both people as they live their daily lives as new Personal Investigators and readers get to observe the needs, wants, insecurities and desires of both main characters. As we witness first handedly the impact the business, has on their physical and emotional well being, we are left wondering will there be a Happy Ever After?
For a debut novel, Shea successfully ticks all the boxes. Readers are engrossed, characters are interesting and even her supportive characters are written strong enough to impact the direction of the story.
As this is the first novel in a series I look forward to reading Kacey Shea’s next book.
